Caste: Hunter

Talioc is a hunter from a copse in the north east of Seraphol. Despite her great skill, until recently she mostly hunted locally for meat and leather. However, when the expansion of the nearby swamplands caused rising concern amongst her people, events conspired to drive Talioc to seek an explanation for, and safeguard against, this mysterious threat.

In search of information and assistance, she decided to leave Seraphol for the first time and make her way to the Citadel. There she found that, even now that the spread of the swamp has been contained, the spread of foreboding and confusion through Djemity seems only to increase.

With new threats are looming from all sides, Talioc wishes to fight back wherever she can.

Sylphim Professor Iterno, on the teaching of Chitha

… remember quite with fondness one of my first non-Sylphim students. It was a Becquerel called Talioc. Very determined, though very sad. Quite the gift for it, an eye for artistry…

The Tree of Art

Scholar Ume Yos Trakot records her observations of a tree within the Seraphol.

… most thankful to my guide, who could bring me through the Seraphol safely and give me this greatest chance to see such a work of the past…

… though the trunks have grown thick, you can see the oak inter-twine with the tree of iron. But within, through the barest of slits between them, you can see the real heart of it - a sword pulsing with a soft crimson glow. I touched the tree and felt as if a faint heart-beat…

… the foundations are but the least of its marvels. The trunks tell many a story, whether with words carved upon them, or with remarkable figures, sprouted from the branches…

… I hear the voice of the harp and the wind rush through the branches with a keening grief…

… here I can see the tale of Talioc herself (one we know well), and around it woven those of some Caleyll and Malaq, and of Jupalo and Rylim and I shall try my best to interpret them all for you…

… true art covers all the rest. I have already recorded before that a number of the Sylphim cite the inspiration of many a Becquerel student of Chitha is this very tree. And yet many have not seen it!

The Foremost Heightsman

A Becquerel storyweaver speaks:

I will tell you now of Rowen, a young Becquerel who came alone to the Continent of Balas. I know of her, for she told me much of her life and I have learnt much more travelling with her. Though she came along, she found many others soon, of all races, and set about all the new peoples of Balas. She sought friends and found many, and though she did not seek purpose, I think she found it. I will tell you of how here she championed peace, there resistance to oppression, here spoke with great wisdom and there with great passion. As she inspired all to fairness, so by her example so many followed.
