Setting

Djemity is set in a high fantasy world of heroes, spirits and monsters. It focuses on the eponymous continent of Djemity, a place populated by five fantastic races who now find themselves in a fragile alliance against an ancient foe.

Though the Races may have built mighty cities within their homelands and cultivated what territory they can protect, the lands of Djemity are mostly primal wilderness. Monsters roam the lands, both savage animals and more cunning beasts, and it is a brave or foolhardy traveller who journeys alone.

It is a place of magic where the Races have each developed their own unique gifts. Even the meanest beggar can enrich themselves with a crude cantrip and only the chimeras, the union of two Races, are bereft of any power.

It is a world where much of the past is a mystery. Two hundred years ago a calamitous magical disaster befell all the Races and their knowledge of history was torn away and scattered. Now adventurers may hope to find fragments of ancient lore hidden in the depths of a catacomb or seared into the side of a mountain.

The technology level of the Races is traditional pre-blackpowder fantasy and won't change significantly across the course of the game. Invention in Djemity is the domain of enchanters; those who can permanently empower items with magical properties.

Theme

Djemity is a game about playing big damn heroes in the context of a war against a mysterious enemy. You represent the best that your Race has to offer, whether you are a mighty warrior, a cunning spy or a silver-tongued politician.

The focus of the game will be on the players facing the dangers of the world (PvE), but this is not to say that there won't be conflict between players too (PvP). The alliance between the races is an uneasy one, and the looming threat won't necessarily mean that old rivalries are forgotten.

Whilst the focus of the game is on heroics, this doesn't rule out being a villain. Indeed the game is all the richer for those with uncertain loyalties and nefarious schemes. What we do ask is that villainy be dramatic rather than pragmatic. Kidnapping other player's families and dangling them over your lava pit is in theme, knifing them in their sleep is not.

Game Plot

As a major focus of the game is PvE, the Djemity Team will be managing major and minor plot arcs throughout the game. The core plot is of course the fight against The Enemy, though this will not be at the expense of all other possibilities. Many minor plots, both inter- and intra-Faction, will feature from the beginning of the game and as opportunities arise more plot strands may be nurtured by the GMs in concert with the players.

We will aim to provide the opportunity for all characters to get involved with the core plot, whatever their strengths are, as well as to deal with other dangers and travails.

It should be noted that the core plot will progress with or without player interaction, and what happens to Djemity will very much depend on what the players do! While we will not of course make the setting unplayable for the created characters, the success of the War Effort against the Enemy will determine the fate of the five races in very visible and dramatic ways.
